dc.description.abstractThe objective of this study was to assess job multiplier effect and leakage in protected areas (PAs). PAs are currently promoted as a positive tool for poverty reduction and sustainable livelihood of the local communities. Many people live in the vicinity of these PAs and denied consumptive access to wildlife resources which they have depended for centuries. Therefore, in order to ensure the long term survival of our PA’s ecosystem including the wildlife, there is a need to ensure that the local people benefit through job creation from these PAs in turn for them to increase their support to the conservation efforts. Data for job multiplier effects and leakages analysis were collected using questionnaire, focus group discussions, and direct observations and by use of reports, published and unpublished reports from different offices. It was reveled that job multiplier for MINAPA was 20%. Job leakage was very high (83%), leakage was very high due to few accommodation facilities, low quality food processing and poor social sendees that courses the visitors to seek products and sendees to other location hence creating jobs to other area far from Mikumi area. It is recommended that more research to be done in order to get reference and standard for comparison purposes.
