Liver, the largest single organ in the body plays a central role in metabolism with a
number of functions including, synthesis, storage and redistribution of carbohydrates,
fats, and vitamins. Also, the liver produces large numbers of serum proteins including
albumin, acute-phase proteins, enzymes and cofactors
(1). Anatomically and
functionally, the liver can be divided into hepatic lobules which are functional units and
hexagonal in shape (Figure 1), (2).
